What is The GOSPEL?

The Gospel is the “Good News” about salvation in Jesus Christ.

It is “Good News” because the Gospel tells us that we can have an eternal relationship with a loving and merciful God. And we can have that relationship through nothing more, or nothing less, than faith in His only Son, Jesus Christ. Jesus came into the world, born to a young virgin, lived the perfect life, died on a cross for the sins of all men, rose from the dead, and ascended into Heaven, where He now lives to care and watch over those who have faith in Him.

All this is clearly revealed to us in the Bible, God’s infallible Word

John 3:16  “For God so loved the world

that He gave his one and only Son,

that whoever believes in Him shall not perish but have eternal life”

It is God’s love for man that moved Him to send His Son to die in our place; to pay the debt of sin that we cannot pay.

Romans 3:23  “All have sinned and fall short of the Glory of God”

We are all guilty of sin. We sin against each other, we even sin against those we love. And we have sinned against a holy God. And He is very clear about the penalty for sin;

Romans 6:23  “The wages for sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord”

We deserve death. Death is what we have “earned” by our sin. But God has a gift for us. A gift He has wrapped in love. It is not what we deserve. It is a gift that is motivated by Grace!

Romans 5:8  “God shows us His love for us by doing this: while we were still sinners, Christ died for us”

See that? While we are still sinners – It is not “good” people doing “good” things. He loves us because of what Jesus did, not because of what we do.

Ephesians 2:8-9 “For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith — and this not from yourselves, it is the gift of God —

not by works, so that no one can boast”

When we believe in Jesus Christ, and accept the death that Jesus died for all of our sin, we become children of God. We are positioned in His family for all eternity. We have new rights and a new life. We have new privileges, and the opportunity to do good in the name of the One who saves us. Ephesians goes on to say:

Ephesians 2:10 “We are His workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand,

that we might walk in them”

As we live out the life in Jesus, we can grow in our relationship with Him through Bible Study and contact with other Christians

2 Peter 3:18 “But grow in the grace and knowledge of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. To him be glory both now and forever! Amen”

The Bible tells us Salvation is by Grace, through Faith, in Jesus Christ.

Salvation is not in us. It is a Gift that comes to us from the hand of a Gracious and Loving God! Grab hold of that Gift and never let go!

Commit your life to Jesus Christ, find another Christian, walk together, and serve others. Seek progress in your new life and let God work out His perfect will for you.

Phil. 2:13 “…for it is God who is at work in you, both to will and to work for His good pleasure.”
